Dr. Karen Deffenbacher is a board-certified interventional cardiologist with advanced training in structural heart disease and a strong background in clinical research and academic medicine.
She completed her undergraduate education at Carleton College, earned a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and received her medical degree with high distinction from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dr. Deffenbacher completed her internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School, followed by fellowships in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology at Northwestern Medicine. She currently serves as Medical Director of the Structural Heart Program and Assistant Professor of Interventional Cardiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Her clinical and research interests include complex coronary interventions, structural heart procedures, and advancing equitable access to cardiovascular care. She is a principal investigator on multiple national clinical trials and an ACC/AHA Early Career Guideline Ambassador.

Cardiovascular Disease, Interventional Cardiology, and Nuclear Cardiology and is dedicated to combining cutting-edge innovation with compassionate, patient-focused care.
